Strachan predicts new Euro league

Postby Poolkew on Tue Nov 13, 2007 8:46 am

Gordon Strachan thinks Celtic will play Manchester United and Chelsea on a regular basis in the future - but as members of a new European league.
There has been regular talk of Celtic and Rangers joining the English Premier League in search of a stiffer test.

But Celtic boss Strachan says thoughts of such a move will become redundant.

"I think in years to come there will be a European league with 54 or 60 clubs," he told the BBC's Inside Sport. "That's the way everybody will get round it."

it keeps coming up, but is a european league viable?

It would be the end result of the current trend of the richest clubs holding too much power in the game. The same happened here with the formation of the premier league. The trouble is, I think we're all power less to stop it.

It's simple, if it happens we (the true football fans) begin footy again at its grass roots. Formations of AFC Wimbledon and FC United are already a hint at what can be done.

Football without the true fans (which would happen with a European Super League) would be soulless and as such over time would lose its popularity. The money will flock into the grass roots game and so the circle will begin again.
