Managers chief John Barnwell says speculation about the future of England boss Steve McClaren "beggars belief".
England must rely on Israel avoiding defeat against Russia and then beat Croatia at Wembley to have a chance of qualifying for Euro 2008.
Barnwell told BBC Sport: "He (McClaren) hasn't failed yet and they're already bringing down the guillotine.
"It beggars belief that people can be hounding their own national manager before these important games."
