Wow! I loved that Zeno. I looked up Fred Spiksley on Wikipedia and he was quite a character. The silly sod was even a prisoner in the First World War! Pure Boys Own stuff that put me in mind of Michael Palin's Ripping Yarns. Remember that? :lol:

Football were man's game then. We had no bloody foreign fairies muddying water. Mind we had no substitutes either just magic sponge. Times were 'ard then. Players used to travel t'game wit fans and be thankful for it 'cause it were either that or go down pit wi' thy dad and thy mates. Aye bloody kids today don't know their born! Kickin' bloody balloon around wearin' bloody ballet shoes as worn by some poof wi' 'airdo more expensive and fancy than my 'ouse!
